At Hayfield Cross, Religious Education (RE) is a valued and integral part of our curriculum. Through inspiring, reflective and inclusive learning experiences, we support children in developing a deeper understanding of worldviews, beliefs and traditions, as well as the values that shape how people live and interact in modern society.
Our RE curriculum is built upon the Statement of Entitlement for Religious Education, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to explore worldviews in a rigorous, balanced and coherent way. To ensure we have a balanced curriculum, we use three disciplines. At the beginning of every RE lesson, children will know whether they are looking through the lens of a philosopher, theologian or a social scientist. Philosophers think about what people think, social scientists think about how people live, and theologians think about what people believe.

We follow the Locally Agreed Syllabus, which provides a strong foundation for progression, enquiry and meaningful exploration of key questions. To enrich and deepen learning, we also make extensive use of the Understanding Christianity resource, helping pupils engage thoughtfully with Christian concepts, texts and teachings.

In addition, we draw on high‑quality materials and guidance from the Peterborough Diocese, supporting our aim to deliver a curriculum that is both academically robust and spiritually reflective. Through this rich approach, children at Hayfield Cross develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to navigate an increasingly diverse world with curiosity, confidence and compassion.
