What is pastoral care?

"A Caring, Sharing Way to Educate."  A Family Support Worker’s role is to help, support and advise parents and carers who have worries or concerns about their child.

Our Pastoral Aims are:
  • to create and maintain positive relationships and a climate throughout the school within which pupils will want to learn and teachers can teach most effectively.
  • to enhance the personal development, self-esteem and well-being of our pupils in a safe and caring environment.
  • to ensure pupils are getting the best opportunities possible to achieve their full potential.
  • to ensure equal opportunities for all.
  • to promote and sustain responsible attitudes, behaviour and choices.
  • to consistently and fairly implement our rules, rewards and sanctions.
  • to celebrate achievement and successes.
How can the Pastoral Team help me?

It cannot be over-stressed how the pastoral care of all of our pupils is the responsibility of the whole community. The way we treat, talk to, interact with and indeed teach pupils all contribute to the quality of their welfare.  Our Pastoral Team can offer support in a range of situations, such as:

- advice and support with your child’s behaviour at home or at school.

- advice and support about your child’s punctuality and attendance.

- other concerns you may have relating to your child that you would like support with.

- supporting you or someone you know who is suffering domestic abuse.

- concerns about any child’s welfare.

- support you to talk to your child’s teacher or to the school about any concerns or queries you may have.

- help you to access information about difficulties you may be experiencing such as money worries, relationships, health etc.

- offering group work and one to one sessions with children in school.

- assistance with form filling.

Please note this is not an exhaustive list.

The Pastoral Team can help your child to:

· Express their views.

· Raise self-esteem and confidence.

· Encourage them to achieve.

· Support them in developing friendships.

· Manage pressures and difficult times in their lives.

· Learn about their social and emotional skills and how to improve these.

· Encourage and promote good school attendance.

· Manage feelings following bereavement and loss.

How Does My child access support through the Pastoral Team?

Hayfield Cross operates an open-door policy to the Inclusion Team which allows an element of safe place and comfort in which all pupils can speak to an adult if needed.

Should you feel your child requires additional support or help, please speak directly to the classroom teacher in the first instance. In addition, there is a range of ‘self-help’ resources of strategies you can find linked on this page.

Northamptonshire Early Help

What is early help?

Every family goes through challenging times at some point. Early help means working with you and your family so that small problems don’t become big problems. Early help is for everybody, for families with children and young people of any age. And it’s your choice whether to have it or not.

Why would I want early help?

There are lots of reasons why people look for early help. It could be that you’re worried about your child’s health, development or behaviour, or how they’re doing at school, or perhaps because you are caring for a disabled child. It may be that you’re worried about money or housing and how that is affecting your family. Maybe your child or your family is affected by domestic abuse, drugs or alcohol or crime. Perhaps your child is a carer for other people, or maybe you’ve had a bereavement in the family that’s made life a real challenge.
